Christmas is Coming

We are four days in to December and the children I teach are “all in” for Christmas. We have an Advent Calendar up in the class and it has become part of our morning routine. There are many learning opportunities linked to the Christmas tree Advent calendar.

It provides: developing an understanding of turntaking, reinforces our learning of the number 1 to 24 and visually shows how close we are getting to Christmas. The more decorations on the tree, the closer we are!

I have also posted an overview of the month, so the children can see how many school days we have until the holiday. I think it is very important to make the WHEN of Christmas very clear because I once taught a pupil whose house was decorated at the outset of November and he woke each day expecting it to be Christmas. Needless to day, he became increasingly unsettled with the daily disappointment.
